CTC College For Kids continues in July

The Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education’s College For Kids program continues in July with new classes and returning favorites. A variety of classes for youngsters three to 18 are available in fields such as science, exercise, personal development, cooking and arts and crafts.

Latin Dance: Students will learn basic salsa, meringue, bachata and cha cha dance moves. The class for 6-11-year-olds is every Monday, July 7-28, from 4-5 p.m. The class for those 12 and older is every Wednesday, July 9-30, from 4-5 p.m. The cost for either class is $25.

Zumba Kids Jr. (age7-11): This dance exercise class features age-appropriate music where students explore a different country and genre of music. The class for 4-6-year-olds is Fridays, July 18 – August 8 and the class for ages 7-11 is the same day from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost for either class is $25.

Water Fitness Camp (age 8-14): This class helps students develop strength and flexibility while improving posture through a 30-minute aerobic routine, 15 minutes of strength training and 15 minutes of stretching. The class is Saturdays, July 26 – August 16, from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. The cost is $25.

Programming for Teens (age 14+): This class gives students the foundation to begin computer programming in Java. Basic concepts such as variables, data, logic, loops and principles of objected-oriented programming are covered. The class meets Monday-Thursday, July 14-17, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The cost is $75.

CSI Junior (age 9+): Learn the basics of crime scene investigation with an emphasis on terminology, fingerprinting, lifting prints from evidence and casting impression evidence. The class is Monday-Wednesday, July 21-23, from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $45.

Young Science Lab Rats (age 6-8): Discover the amazing world of science as you race boats using soap for power, cultivate ghost crystals, make a Technicolor milkshake and other perform other fun experiments. The class is Monday/Tuesday, July 14-15, from 4 – 6:30 p.m. The cost is $85.

Hocus Focus! (age5-12): Students will learn how to increase their concentration power and sharpen their focus. Instruction includes explaining, demonstrating, guiding and enabling each student to learn about the science behind optical illusions. The class is Friday, July 18, from
9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $35.

I Wanna Be a Nurse (age 7+): Explore the exciting world of nursing and learn about basic first aid. The class includes a tour of the CTC simulation lab where students will listen to heart and lung sounds of mannequins. The class is Thursday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and again at the same time on July 31. The cost for either class is $19.

Beginning Theater Production (age 9+): Learn the basics of putting on and performing in a play. Class focuses on movement, vocal and facial expressions, casting and production techniques. The class is Monday-Friday, July 14-25, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $65.

Art Exploration (age3-4): Children will have fun learning how to express themselves by exploring textures, patterns, colors and blending colors. This class encourages creative thinking. It meets Monday-Thursday, July 7-10, from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $39.

Learning Carnival (age 7-10): This engaging learning event challenges young people and tests their skills in math, science and reading concepts. Students must navigate their way through different learning stations set up as a variety of carnival games. The class is Saturday, July 12, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $19.

Summertime Snacks (age7+): Have fun making easy, no-bake snacks. Students learn about healthy ingredients, food preparation and clean-up. The class is Monday-Wednesday, July 14-16, from 8-10 a.m. The cost is $49.

Dino Quest (age 5-12): Unearth the most fascinating creatures from the past – dinosaurs. Explore the different types of dinosaurs, create your own dinosaur and make your own fossils. The class is Monday-Wednesday, July 21-23, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $55.

Other College For Kids classes include, Chess Basics and Strategies, group piano and guitar lessons, public speaking, babysitter training, creative writer’s workshop, poets’ jam, painting, beginning drawing, Galaxy Quest, amusement park engineering, gardening for kids, manners, animal horses, chemistry fun and more.
