Central Texas College (CTC) announced it will now offer a new series of online classes which will benefit anyone interested in a career in the petroleum oil industry. Upon completion of the four-week courses, students will receive lifetime certification in rig, pass and well control from the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
The first course is Introduction to the Petroleum Industry (PTRT 1301). This course will familiarize students with the history of oil and drilling and current petroleum requirements. Students will gain a basic history and knowledge of petroleum exploration, drilling, production, transportation, marketing and chemical processing industries. In addition, they will learn how oil is found, how it is retrieved, how it is processed and what the future holds for the United States and our needs for petroleum. Other course topics include the different types of rigs and equipment used to recover reserves of oil and natural gas, basic terminology and nomenclature relating to the petroleum industry as well as how oil is formed and recovered.
Following the introductory course, the online courses Industrial Safety (PTRT 1313) and Special Topics in Petroleum Technology (PTRT 1391) will be offered. Course subjects include industrial safety and general well control.
Although these courses are not associated with a specific degree plan, the classes will provide nine credit hours of electives which can be applied to any degree plan in addition to the certification. Start date for the first class is February 7. Registration for these and other CTC online classes starting in February is underway now through February 3. Current students can register online through the CTC WebAdvisor system and new students should register in person at Student Services (Bldg. 119).
