CTC online high school now called CTC Open Academy

Central Texas College (CTC) recently announced its online alternative high school, Open Academy, will now be known as the CTC Open Academy. Offered through CTC’s operating unit, American Preparatory Institute (API), the CTC Open Academy is a fully-accredited alternative high school offering an online self-paced, open entry/open exit virtual high school program based on API curriculum. It provides students with the capability to work on courses from any device with an Internet connection.

The CTC Open Academy is ideal for students seeking to complete or resume a high school diploma program, and is also open to those who have a G.E.D. but wish to obtain a high school diploma. Through Open Academy, students submit coursework as their schedules permit and at their own pace. Upon completion of the program, students receive a Texas high school diploma issued by the American Preparatory Institute.

“CTC has a long history of providing accessible college programs and also reaching out to high school-age students through dual credit and the API program,” noted Dr. Thomas Klincar, CTC chancellor. “The name change to CTC Open Academy reflects our desire to strengthen the connection between CTC and our excellence in distance education opportunities for high school students.”

The CTC Open Academy is available to prospective students worldwide and the online format provides the flexibility that many students look for, especially military personnel and their family members. In addition to its access anywhere an Internet connection is available, the CTC Open Academy also offers the advantages of Web 2.0 integrated technology including interactive multimedia presentations and live chat support; online documentation and tutorials to help students and parents navigate the available courses; a new and improved course presentation system for easier viewing; and a dedicated team of teachers and support staff to help students maximize their potential.

The CTC Open Academy curriculum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and Texas College and Career Readiness standards and includes a variety of high school subjects including English, creative writing, biology, foreign language, algebra, geometry, government, history, fine arts and more. Students work on one class at a time and move through the self-contained curriculum at their own pace.

To enroll in the CTC Open Academy, students may apply and get further information at http://www.openacademy.us. Students work with a counselor to determine coursework required, register via the CTC Open Academy website and pay tuition online via the school’s WebAdvisor system.

For more than 30 years, API has developed and published self-paced, competency-based curriculum used in a wide variety of educational environments. Each course covers core concepts based on the highly rated Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). API has provided curriculum to more than 500 school districts in Texas and its neighboring states. Through the CTC Open Academy, API provides the same quality to students worldwide. API is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI) and is a member of the Texas Association of Nonpublic Schools (TANS) and the Texas Association of Alternative Education (TAAE).
